What is Affordable Housing?
Today in our country there are individuals who never experience the benefits and joy of home ownership. Those realities are just as real here in Toledo, Ohio. These individuals are not just the indigent and working poor, but are the people who make up our community and affect our lives daily. Our public service employees, teachers and municipal workers are now among those with critical housing needs.
This is a growing epidemic and no one has caused it, but there are many who can help. Realtors® face this problem every day when buyers come to them for help. The Toledo Board of Realtors® along with other housing organizations has collaborated to create the TBR Cares Program to address Toledo's housing needs.
The Affordable Housing & Cultural Diversity Committee of the Toledo Board of Realtors® has defined Affordable Housing as any single or 2 family owner occupied home under the price of $90,000. Also included is any single or 2 family owner occupied home over the price of $90,000 that has included special down payment assistance or financing program that brings the total sale price closer to that $90,000 goal.
